“Most impressive... shaped with energy and clarity– THE AUSTRALIAN, ON MICHAEL DAHLENBURG
Chamber music titan Michael Dahlenburg joins forces with long-time collaborator Stefan Cassomenos, to tell us tales that hover between states of consciousness, of a drunken one-legged soldier, of a tearful dream, and of nasty monsters in Schumann’s inspired exploration of rustic themes. Dahlenburg and Cassomenos then turn their attention to the epic Grieg Cello Sonata, which also draws joyously on the folk style, in a manner distinctly reminiscent of Grieg’s own Piano Concerto written fifteen years earlier, illuminating the rich heritage of Norwegian melody with lush harmonies and the most supremely romantic of gestures.
